Fisher of men is taken from the story in the Bible in Luke 5 . In this story the disciples of Jesus had an experience with Him which changed how they viewed Jesus`s ability to provide for them. when we examine the story what do we learn?
The ships were sitting idle by the lake we see Jesus used there ship to teach the people.
Jesus entered into Simon Peter`s ship and taught the people out of the ship. After he taught the people he said unto Simon launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught. Simons response was master we have toiled all night nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net, and when they did the net enclosed a great multitude of fishes and their net brake.
Many of us are toiling like the disciples did on the ships trying to provide for our needs. if we will allow Jesus to use what we have to build his kingdom we will find he is able to provide for us. Jesus desires for us to become fishers of men just like his disciples did . He knows where we are just as Simon Peter worked hard to catch fish and caught nothing. We may not have a fishing business like they did but we all have been given certain skills and abilities we can put to use for building God`s kingdom. let Jesus use what you have to bless others he will provide as long as we are obedient to him.
Jesus told his disciples they would catch men we are all called to bring the message of the gospel of Jesus to the lost world we are apart of. The relationship God offers us through his Son is the only way we can find lasting peace in ourlives the peace many lost people in the world are searching for.
Jesus helping his Disciples
In the book of John chapter 21 we see a story after Jesus was risen from the dead he show himself to his disciple at the sea of Tiberias. Peter and the other disciples went fishing and did not catch anything all night . Jesus appeared unto them and told them where to catch when they obeyed him they caught many fishes . Jesus told them to bring the fish that they have caught and come and dine with Him. There are times in our lives when we are working hard to provide for ourselves and can`t seem to make ends meet Jesus cares about us and if we surrender to him and are obeidient to his instructions he will bless our endeavors.
The disciple were working on their own until Jesus appeared unto them on the seashore after they had dined Jesus asked Peter if he Loved Him He asked him three times using the word agapae the greek word for unconditional love Peter used the word for love meaning brotherly love to answer him. He could not answer him with the unconditional love after Peter received the power of the Holy Spirit in his life it was only then he was able to love others with God kind of love.
If we are working hard to make ends meet we need to dine with Jesus have fellowship with him he cares for us he will instruct us in what to do.He will pour out his Spirit in our lives so we can love others with his unconditional love and fulfill his purpose of touching people with his love.
